URI celebrates Constitution Day

09/16/05 - University of Rhode Island students, professors and administrators celebrated U.S. Constitution Day yesterday in the Memorial Union Ballroom by reading selections from the U.S. Constitution, Bill of Rights and a list of banned books. The event coincided with Banned Books Week.

Former fraternity house will be second IEP house

09/16/05 - For eight years the International Engineering Program has called their house, on Upper College Road, home. Formerly the SAE Fraternity house, IEP currently uses the space for offices, a full working kitchen, dining area and dormitories. However, IEP is growing and more space will be needed.

09/16/05 - Historically, female science, mathematics and engineering professors were few and far between, but a program at the University of Rhode Island is working toward changing this standard. The ADVANCE program at URI was implemented in 2003 after the university received a five-year, $3.5-million grant from the National Science Foundation.

Professor retires, cites administration, lack of intellectual diversity

Regardless of the topic and the students' interests, the professor has the ability to appeal to every distinct personality. An individual who wholly fits this description is Marc Genest, who at the dismay of many of his students, left the University of Rhode Island in August.

Free newspapers delayed, will be available Sept. 26

09/16/05 - Last year, when Doug Fraser from USA Today approached the University of Rhode Island, there was talk of a program being implemented that would bring free newspapers to URI's students. The Providence Journal, USA Today, the New York Times, and the Financial Times of London were to be provided at various kiosks located around campus.
