Homecoming bittersweet, URI football loses to Richmond 31-6

10/17/06 -Once again the University of Rhode Island football team's offense couldn't get it done. The Rams managed 125 passing yards and a season low 123 yards rushing as the Richmond Spiders trounced Rhode Island 31-6 in the annual homecoming game. Freshman quarterback John Butler, replacing injured starter Derek Cassidy, completed four of 10 passes for 64 yards with a touchdown and an interception in the loss.

Men's soccer boots past Temple, St. Joe's in weekend showdowns [P]

10/17/06 - With a little assistance from its opponents, the University of Rhode Island men's soccer team flexed its offensive muscles in a pair of conference wins at home over the weekend. The team beat Temple 2-1 Friday with the help from an own goal but didn't need any help from St. Josephs as they crushed them 6-1 on Sunday.

Women's volleyball swept by Dayton, Xavier in Ohio

10/17/06 - The University of Rhode Island women's volleyball team was swept in both of its Atlantic 10 conference matches over the weekend to Dayton and Xavier. Friday night Rhode Island lost to Dayton 3-0 (30-18, 30-20, 30-26) on the road at Dayton, Ohio.

Field hockey splits weekend A-10 games vs. Richmond, St. Louis

10/17/06 - Following a tough 1-0 loss to 18th ranked University of Richmond Friday, the University of Rhode Island field hockey team rebounded with a 3-0 victory over St. Louis University. "That was huge," head coach Stacey Bean said.
