04/25/08 - The University of Rhode Island's Department of Music will be ending the concert season this weekend with five shows, running today through Tuesday at the Fine Arts Center. Musical acts range in style from Mozart to Celtic hymns. Scheduled for this evening, the URI Concert Band will be performing a completely original piece entitled Genesis, a representation of the Biblical creation story.
04/25/08 - While many University of Rhode Island students look to video games as a distraction or a hobby, Randy Kulman, a clinical psychologist in Peace Dale, R.I., looks to them as a learning tool. For the past 15 years, Kulman has been researching how video games can enhance the brain's executive functions - processes like quick thinking, strategizing, organizing and planning.
04/25/08 - To many, ancient Mayan tombs may bring to mind images of whip-wielding, gun-toting adventurers dodging clever booby traps, but to University of Rhode Island professor Margaret Ordoñez, it's all about the textiles. Ordoñez, a textiles, fashion merchandising and design professor, has been conducting research since 2004 on textile samples from a fifth century Mayan tomb in Honduras.
04/25/08 - University of Rhode Island Hillel students celebrated Passover this week with traditional matzah recipes and Shabbat services. "Passover celebrates the exodus of the Jews from Egypt after hundreds of years of slavery," Amy Olson, director of URI Hillel, said.
