09/19/07 - As you get into the swing of class schedules, assignments, syllabi, and exams, some questions may occur to you that relate to your academic success.
Questions such as: How do I figure out when my exams are scheduled? What does it mean to be on academic probation? What do I need to do to graduate? How do I appeal a grade? What are the university's policies on cheating, plagiarism, attendance, exams, etc.?
Many students ask these questions and more, but are often frustrated because they don't know where to look or who to ask for helpful answers. As the chairwoman of the Academic Affairs Committee on Student Senate, it is my job to assist students in navigating URI's academic system and finding solutions to the obstacles they face.
If you are facing a difficult situation or need advice, chances are that many of your fellow students are in similar circumstances. The purpose of this column is to provide a forum for any questions related to academics at URI, and for the benefit of the student body in general.
Submissions are welcome and kept confidential. They can be sent to rhodysenate@gmail.com. This column will run every other Wednesday.
