10/11/07 - James Blunt, the British singer/songwriter who first brought us the captivating song "You're Beautiful" back in 2005 is back with his second album All the Lost Souls, which was recently released on Sept. 18.

Blunt's first CD, Back to Bedlam, received strong reviews and sold more than 11 million CDs worldwide. The debut CD was also nominated for five Grammys and won two MTV Awards.

All the Lost Souls has been given mixed reviews. Some critics commented that the rock/pop album doesn't live up to his first CD, but if you're a James Blunt fan, then you will take great pleasure in listening to All the Lost Souls. It was inspired by 70s artists like Fleetwood Mac and Elton John.

The first single off the new album, "1973," is a reminiscence of the good times with the people he loved. The piano has a melancholy sound to it throughout the song but Blunt's voice is very well projected. The tempo is quicker than Blunt's normal speed, and easy to catch on to.

Blunt's lyrics are filled with emotion, romance, pain, and personal memories. He is known for his distinctive and unique voice. The ballad, "I Really Want You" is a bit different from the other nine on the CD. Blunt took a few steps out of his comfort zone by singing at a faster pace, yet he still had a soft-spoken pitch to his voice. The lines are quite predictable and cliché but still enjoyable.

Although Blunt's voice has a relaxing touch to it, most of the tracks sound similar to each other. "Shine On" is lullaby-like and boring, but "Annie" is catchy in a positive way and more guitar-driven. The song starts out slow but gets faster as it progresses.

"I Can't Hear the Music" is deep and powerful. It is about Blunt's dedication for his love of music and is a perfect way to close the CD.

Blunt has the ability to go really in depth with his songs and have an impact on his fans everywhere. The harmonic sounds of the piano and guitar flow beautifully together and make this CD a wonderful pick.
