10/11/07 - Dear Steven,
Thank you for your concern. I'm sorry that you were so outraged by my "sub-par" review of moe's concert at Lupo's. I apologize if, for whatever reason, it just didn't live up to your arbitrary standards of what a music review should be.
But I'm glad that you have decided to take time out of your busy schedule to let me know just how "clearly ignorant" I am.
Really, without your input I might have gone around just assuming I wasn't an idiot. You, sir, are truly doing a good service by setting me straight.
I do have one question, though: how exactly do you know that I listen to, what you call "pseudo-neuvo indie crap bands." (And, come to think of it- what does that even mean?)
As you so helpfully pointed out, I'm "ignorant" so meaningless jargon like that is over my head.
Anyway, I wasn't aware that we knew each other, Steven, so I was just wondering how you could possibly know what kind of music I like and, furthermore, why you would take it upon yourself to pass that judgment.
In any case I'm sorry that you find my terrible taste in music so offensive.
But I digress.
Let me address some of your concerns:
- Whatever jabs I made at hippies were all in good fun, and were in no way intended to enrage readers like you. I consider myself a friend to all hippies, and would never intentionally hurt them.
- The review wasn't intended to be particularly negative. Now, I would never accuse you of being "blind or just clearly ignorant," but I did compare moe to Steely Dan and even said that they were "good musicians" in the last line of my review. I respect both moe and its fans and, again, I'm sorry if you found my review offensive.
- I don't claim to be an expert on moe's (or anyone else's) music. I just write what I think about a particular topic or issue. There's no science to it- the best I can do is give my opinion, and I expect some people to disagree with me.
But, really, thank you for enlightening me, Steven. You see, I was unaware that there were "right" and "wrong" opinions about music.
I had always operated under the assumption that music was a personal, subjective art form and that people were entitled to their own opinions about it.
I guess I was wrong!
Thanks again, Steven!
Sincerely,
Caity Cudworth
