Letter: Officer warns students about parking fees
Issue date: 9/10/08 Section: Editorial/Opinion
09/10/08 - To the Cigar, I am writing to inform students of recent increases in University of Rhode Island Parking Violations, and Rhode Island Traffic Violation (general) increases.
If you are parked in an area on campus that is not designated and defined as an area you should be in legally, it will cost you $85.00.
This is an increase of $45.00 from last year. Your vehicle is also subject to be towed at an additional cost to the ticket.
The URI Police have nothing to do with the astronomical increase, except when you, "the students," make the decision to park illegally.
So before you come running down from your rooms screaming at an officer ticketing your vehicle, ask yourself, "why did I park here?"
I am writing this to inform the student population so they may avoid these needless fines. Please monitor where you park, and park where you are legal.
In closing, we are all here to do our best to support the students and see them safely through their college years.
I'm certain there are books to buy, or places to go, for $85, rather than to park for minutes and have to pay such a hefty fine! Stay well, stay safe.
