Letter: In light of Zionism, seek truth
Issue date: 9/16/08 Section: Editorial/Opinion
To the Cigar,
There was a display of signs last week on campus stating that "Zionism planned 9/11." Of course, unless one is a conspiracy theorist or a subscriber to radical Islam, it is well known that Zionism had nothing to do with 9/11. Zionism, simply defined, is the belief in the centrality of Israel in Jewish historical & religious experience. Much like Holocaust denial, this is a blatant attempt to de-legitimize the State of Israel.
We must realize that freedom of speech is as much a right for the ignorant haters, anti-Semites and racists as it is for the rest of America. But here at URI, we should seek out the truth and not be blinded by bigotry, hatred and lies.
