Gagnon also said that Wikispaces might even replace WebCT someday, and can sometimes be more efficient if instructors are willing to go through the site. "I think it's a big thing to globalize," he said. "Society doesn't focus on the factual knowledge anymore, it focuses on conceptual knowledge. I don't need to know what year Thomas Jefferson was president because I can find that in two seconds on Google. I think with more technology like this, you'll see a lot less classes with busy work and more classes that give you time to work on details."

So far, NOMAD project expenditures dating up to fiscal year 2010 have reached just more than $2 million, leaving about $3.6 million left over for more improvements. There are five buildings at URI which are in need of technology upgrades: Chafee Social Science Center, Quinn Hall, Pastore Hall, East Hall and the Providence campus. Pastore and East Halls don't have plans for renovations until the summer of 2009.

Technology upgrades will include the use of "iClickers, classroom capture systems, collaboration software, online learning and visualization ... scientific probes and other lab instrumentation."

The new technology standards will also be applied to the new Center for Biotechnology and Life Sciences, the Pell Library/Inner Space Center on the Narragansett Bay campus and Lippitt Hall.
