After the chorus, guest rapper Mooks says, "Imagine a society that's free from harassment where cops do more than find where the blacks went." The idea of assuming all cops are out to get someone seems like a blatantly ignorant statement while moments earlier, we were told to not be ignorant. The result makes for a questionable head scratching oddity in the mind.
Elevation is an album with really enjoyable beats but hard- to- swallow lyrics. The entire album feels like a public service announcement for becoming a better person or rising above evil influence. At times it feels like a personal résumé for Pete Shengu to show off how good of a person he is in the community.
While the sole purpose of this album is to create positive change in every listener, the truth is that the ideal ending isn't always the most probable one. Without any real kind of notable stature, the question can be asked again: if a man you have never met or have never even heard of started preaching to you about society and influence, would you allow him to completely change your views on everything?
