10/16/08 - Voting season is here! People have been rushing to get their absentee ballots and register to vote. Even though voting finally seems to be an issue young people care about, there is still some discrepancy.

Some people still haven't been adequately educated on the issues or keeping up with politics. Others believe that their vote doesn't count or they're just plain lazy.

I think it's safe to say that this will end up being one of the closest races in presidential election history.

Keeping this in mind, every vote counts. It's important for young people to become educated about the issues. It's also important for us to develop attitudes and opinions on what is important to us individually and to choose a side. One argument I hear a lot is that it's hard to comprehend which candidate takes a stance on which issue.

There are many Web sites that break down the issues in simpler terminology, making it easier for people to understand. These Web sites include votegopher.com, rockthevote.com and servicevote.org. Most people agree that voting is a responsibility, as well as a privilege.

It's important to vote so young people's voices will be heard. Young voting has been on the rise during the past couple of years. It is a changing time in the world, and we as young voters have the opportunity to help decide who will lead our country into the future. You have a chance to be part of history in the making. Serve your country by voting!
