To be an intern, or not to be an intern… there's no question about it!

11/14/08 - How can I get a great job? What can I do now to prepare for my career? Is my resume professional? I need to graduate and need credits! My name is Chris DaCosta, a senior Human Development and Family Studies major, and here is how you can discover answers to those questions.
Being involved on campus in the last four years has given me the opportunity to grow, learn new skills, help others and meet new people. I now intern in the Office of Internships and Experiential Education (OIEE) helping students during the internship seeking process. Advising students, giving presentations, and communicating with other offices on campus to help students are just some of the tasks and projects that I am responsible for.
The office provides such a great environment for me to develop in the field that I am looking into. The staff and advisors are knowledgeable, welcoming and always look out for the student's best interest.
They've helped me find a placement that fits what I needed and wanted in order to achieve my career goals and objectives.
More and more students are beginning to start their careers through internship. You can determine whether or not a certain career path is right for you and discover what you need to succeed in a work place. This could be anything from the type of environment you thrive in to flexibility given by a supervisor. An internship through OIEE can help you gain free elective credit, invaluable career experiences for your resume or grad school applications and help you to discover what the job seeking field is really like. I would not change this experience for any other.
OIEE is located on the first floor of Roosevelt Hall. Call us at 401-874-2160 or email intern@etal.uri.edu.
Walk-ins are always welcomed!
To intern or not to intern: I think you know the right answer!
