Letter: Fans unhappy with game-day obstacles
Issue date: 11/18/08 Section: Editorial/Opinion
11/18/08 - To the Cigar,
We would like to celebrate and congratulate Rhody Men's Basketball for their win over Brown University and amazing play against Duke University, the fifth ranked team in the country, at their home stadium. The Rams are a fun team to watch, but most students were not able to see our last game. URI sold 12 tickets to the actual game, but you had to pay $50 and provide transportation to North Carolina - pretty overwhelming obstacles.
If you wanted to stay in Rhode Island, you had to leave campus since we don't get ESPNU in our dorms and they didn't show the game anywhere on campus.
The administration wants students to be involved and excited, so please make these games available for us.
I also urge our university to get as many student tickets as possible to the upcoming Providence College game.
They filled a few courtside sections at the Ryan Center last year and it would be great if we could do that in Providence.
Hopefully the university will make a more conscious effort to make future games available to students on campus.
