11/18/08 - Two University of Rhode Island students were severely injured during the last two weekends. Junior Kimly May, 21, and sophomore Courtney Hollingworth, 19, were both transported to Rhode Island Hospital as a result of separate car accidents.

On Saturday, Nov. 8 around 3:20 a.m. May's car struck a utility pole after he lost control of his Audi. According to Narragansett police, May was traveling on South Pier Road near the intersection of Walt's Way.

A Providence Journal article said the car spun out of control, causing the vehicle's passenger side to strike the utility pole.

The nursing student was traveling alone and was the only vehicle involved in the accident. May was transported to Rhode Island Hospital and treated in the intensive care unit.

The New York resident and URI track team member remains in serious condition, hospital officials said.

On Saturday around 4:40 p.m. Hollingworth's Honda collided with a mini-van traveling in the opposite direction near the intersection of Palm Beach Avenue on Point Judith Road, Narragansett police said.

Hollingworth was traveling Northbound on Point Judith when her car fishtailed on the rainy day.

As of yesterday, Hollingworth was listed in serious condition.

Narragansett Police said the accident is still under investigation.
