"It was a great start to the season," freshman Kalyn Sheehan said. "She motivated us all to run well on Saturday."
The pentathlon consists of five events: 60-meter hurdles, long jump, high jump, 800-meter and shot put.
Graham scored a personal best 3,559 points, which now holds the record for highest point total by a URI multi-event athlete.
"She is a great role model to the younger runners," freshman Chelsea Jubrey said. "We can all look up to her."
Also competing in the pentathlon was fellow senior Ajoke Ogundolani, who finished in third place with 3,195 points.
The remainder of the women's indoor track and field team began their season on Saturday, when they competed in the Vern Alden Invitational at Brown University.
This meet commemorates Vernon Roger Alden, who attended Brown University, and served as the fifteenth president of Ohio University.
The meet was a non-team scoring event, which meant that only individual scores were recorded. Also competing in the meet were Bryant University, University of Connecticut, the College of Holy Cross and Providence College.
Graham finished third overall in the high jump, clearing a height of 5 feet, 6 inches.
The URI 4X400-meter relay team, consisting of Sheehan, sophomore Najla Singleton-McKinnon, Jubrey and junior Natatia Nugent, finished third as well, clocking in at 3:56.87.
"I'm really happy with my first time," Jubrey said. "It was nice to get the pressure of the first meet off my back."
Sheehan finished fourth in the 300-meter dash for the Rams at 41.24 seconds.
Junior Karyn Geoghan competed in the triple jump for the Rams, placing third with a mark of 34 ft. 11 inches.
"I felt like the meet went really well," Sheehan said. "It was very enjoyable. Our team ran well, with a number of personal bests reached."
In the field, sophomore Crystal Bourque finished fourth in the weight throw, with a toss of 51ft. and 1 inch.
The Rams will not return to action until Jan. 16th, when they host the URI Sorlien Invitational. This will be the first team scoring meet for the Rams this year, as they look to improve upon last years third place finish.
"Everyone goes home for the holidays and practices on their own," Sheehan said. "We will come back ready to go for our first meet."
