04/08/09 - In the words of Andy Rooney of "60 Minutes," "What has this world come to? Ramble, ramble, ramble."

For someone that hates people who complain, I'm about to do a whole lot of it. Oh, the irony.

Monday, a woman at a restaurant in Haltom City, Texas - outside Fort Worth - called 9-1-1 to report a lack of shrimp in her fried rice dinner, according to the Associated Press.

Really, ma'am? A call to 9-1-1 because of a lack of shrimp in your rice should be a felony.

Here's another one: A woman called 9-1-1 after she ordered a "western bacon cheeseburger" four times from Burger King, and did not get what she ordered.

After the dispatcher told the woman this situation did not warrant an officer, the woman complained that the police were there to protect her. What were they going to protect her from? Rampant, burglarizing burgers?

These are prime examples of people believing their needs rise above others, and have a complete disregard for common sense. These are egocentric maniacs that need to have their perspectives on life readjusted.

Have I ever been annoyed by the service at a restaurant? Sure. But when one is able to step outside of a tantrum and realize the minimal repercussions of these incidents, he or she can see more important things one could be doing with his or her time than complaining about the lack of service.

For people that don't get wrapped up in the minor obstacles of every day life, these glimpses of the inexplicable actions of others should offer some feelings of sanity and superiority, when so much else in their lives could be going wrong. Instead of complaining about little things, find the little things that make you happy.

Spring is here and it's finally getting warmer, which means baseball season has finally arrived.

Get outside, go for a walk, barbeque and enjoy what you have. Maybe get some take-out food, chill out on the couch, whatever you want. But please, please, please let the petty things in your life slide, because if you take the time to complain at every opportunity you get in life, in the words of Ferris Bueller, "you might just miss it."

Think having to show up to campus 25 minutes early for a parking spot is an issue? Complain about the teacher with coffee breath? Hate the morning breakfast lineup in the dining halls? These are some common complaints.

And don't get me wrong, I want improvements in everything whenever they can be found, but take a moment to think about those less fortunate than yourself.
