Letter: Uhuru Sa Sa thanks university
Issue date: 4/21/09 Section: Editorial/Opinion
04/21/09 - To the URI community,
Thank you for a wonderful year. This year Sa Sa Week was a huge success and we want to sincerely express appreciation to all who made it a possibility.
Every year for the past four decades Uhuru Sa Sa has been committed to fostering positive campus enrichment. For the most part, we have accomplished our mission as a campus advocacy organization for students, and also for a better URI, where all people feel safe to live, learn and be on an equal pedestal.
However, much of what the group has accomplished has been with the help of multiple individuals and other organizations both here on campus and off. Without these various contributors Sa Sa would be very limited in how much we could accomplish socially and educationally. It is to these individuals that we say thank you for your continuous support of Uhuru Sa Sa.
This year alone our programming would have been very limited if it was not for your generosity, and for this we will always express our gratitude. The second semester for us, especially, is always a busy time and much work has to go into the large-scale productions that we run - namely, the Uhuru Sa Sa annual Lights, Camera, Fashion Show and our annual Sa Sa Love Basketball Tournament which required more work, patience and management than I will ever be able to express here.
Although Uhuru Sa Sa's name is highlighting these events, they are all team efforts. Almost every individual on this campus has contributed in some way. For example, some individuals have served as critics, which made a difference in the way we present our programs. Some individuals ignored us entirely, that forced us to think of innovative ways to reach out to all members of this community. And some individuals have supported us, despite our faults.
Thanks to President Carothers for his support of campus diversity. Thanks to the Talent Development Program. Thanks to the Memorial Union staff for their patience. Thanks to the Multicultural Center and to all who play a role in what we are as an organization, and what we will eventually accomplish as students and members of society.
The bottom line is that each and every person who has contributed to the success of Sa Sa, we appreciate you and the help you have provided to make us better. In a show of our deepest appreciation, we want to dedicate this year of success and growth to you.
Sincerely,
Rich Norris
