10/30/09 - With Halloween well on its way, the horror movie season has officially begun, marked by current and forthcoming releases such as "Paranormal Activity," "Saw VI" and "New Moon." In honor of the season, The Cigar is looking back on some of the best horror movies of the last decade.
Horror movie with the best twist: Pearl Harbor (2001)
When the evil Axis powers attempt world domination, the brave Rafe must head to Europe to stop them, leaving behind his beloved Nurse Evelyn. When Evelyn hears of his death, she runs into the arms of his best friend, Danny. Unbeknownst to her, the ever-resourceful Rafe survived the battle, saving the world and returning to sweep her off her feet. Really, it's more horrible than horrifying.
Horror movie that made you want to drop out of college: Catwoman (2004)
After the release of this movie about the little-known Catwoman, female college students changed their career paths in droves, giving the beauty industry a huge employment boom, in hopes that they could be the next Catwoman, whipping the streets into shape one black jumpsuit at a time. After all, who wants to learn useless things like economics or biology anyway?
Best gross-out flick: The Hottie and the Nottie (2008)
Paris Hilton. On camera. The only thing more horrific than that? Paris Hilton. On camera. Acting.
Best horror movie for couples: From Justin to Kelly (2003)
Spring Break in Florida begins innocently enough for a group of coeds down at Miami Beach, but things turn horribly wrong when they are forced to sing their every emotion, turning Miami Beach into a hormone-drenched madhouse. And as the rivalry for Justin's affections heats up between Alexa and Kelly, it's a race to see who can make it out of Miami with their career intact.
Best horror movie of the decade: Gigli (2003)
When Larry Gigli falls under the spell of the beautiful seductress Ricki, he goes to incredible lengths to prove his devotion, risking his life in the process until she finally gobbles him up in a scene that has been seared into the brains of the few souls brave enough to watch it.
And there you have it, guys and ghouls. Next time you're looking for a good scare, head to your local video store and check out these frightful flicks, if you dare. Don't say I didn't warn you.
