11/19/09 - The University of Rhode Island women's Ice hockey team completed a four-game sweep last weekend in the Division One Showcase in Ohio. The Rams scored a total of 39 goals in the four game series.

"Each game is different and we adjust to our competition," head coach Beth McCann said. "At this point we were successful with the line up. We have many players that are universal players so we take it one game at a time."

The Rams started off the showcase on a good note when they played Colorado State University and won 14-2.

With the victory over Colorado State, the team reached 200 wins, and holds an overall record of 203-79-15 over 11 seasons.

"As a team, we set goals this past weekend and each player contributed to accomplishing the goals that were set," McCann added. "We still have a long season ahead of us so it will take hard work, focus and teamwork. This weekend proved we could accomplish great things as a team, but still have some work to do."

Rhode Island seemed to have no problem scoring, and the offense seemed to be clicking. Freshman Kaitlin O'Donnell and sophomore Kayla Robidoux had four goals each.

Sophomore Johanna Leskinen scored two goals in the game, and sophomore Meghan Birnie, juniors Justine Ducie, Michelle Paquin and Caroline Greene each added a goal.

Junior goaltender Nina Goncarovs was solid behind the net, stopping 15 shots while allowing only two goals during 50 minutes of play.

In Saturday's afternoon matchup against Buffalo University, the offense picked up right where they left off in Friday's game, scoring nine goals and easily defeating Buffalo, 9-1.

O'Donnell had a hat trick, while Robidoux added two goals. In two games the two forwards had a combined 13 goals. Birnie had a goal and three assists, and Leskinen found the back of the net yet again, adding an assist.

The Rams were back in action Saturday night when they faced Ohio State University in a 5-0 win.
